Equity benchmarks started off the year 2016 on a positive
note. The Sensex rose 43.36 points to 26160.90 and the Nifty gained 16.85
points at 7963.20 amid thin volumes as global markets shut today.
Among midcaps, Srei Infrastructure, SpiceJet, Jet Airways,
IL&FS Transportion and Gujarat State Petronet rallied 5-11 percent while
Berger Paints, Blue Star, Thermax, Mangalam Industries and Mahindra Holidays
fell 2 percent each.
