Market ends flat; Sensex down 12 points, Nifty below 7,800
The domestic stock market showed strength
early into the session on Friday in line with gains in the US market in
overnight trade and mixed signals from its Asian peers, but gave up most of the
gains to close flat for the day. BSE benchmark S&P Sensex ended the day
11.96 points down at 25,610.21 while the broader 50-share barometer Nifty
closed 1.20 points up at 7,789.3. Tata Steel and Tata Motors were the top two losers on the BSE Sensex, down 3 per cent each. 18 of Sensex shares ended day higher.
The S&P BSE midcap index closed 0.17 per cent higher while the BSE smallcap index gained 0.63 per cent.
The market remained range-bound throughout the day ahead of crucial July factory output numbers scheduled for release later in the day.
