Sensex ends 147 points up, Nifty tops 8,150; Tata Motors
gains 6%, ITC and Coal India 4% each
The S&P BSE Sensex rose 147 points, or 0.55 per cent,
to close at 26,932 while the broader market barometer 50-stock Nifty50 ended
the day 33 points, or 0.41 per cent, higher at 8,152.
Tata MotorsBSE 5.81 % and ITC were the top gainers on the
BSE benchmark, ending with gains of 5.8 and 4.3per cent, respectively.
The S&P BSE midcap index rose 0.3 per cent while the
BSE smallcap index climbed 0.7 per cent. Among the sectoral indices, BSE FMCG
was the top gainer. Dhampur Sugars and Bajaj Hindusthan Sugars contributed most
to the gains on the index.
